Welcome to Melodie Rose Ceramics!

Hi, my name is Melodie Rose, I am the artist behind this small business.

AT A GLANCE...
I'm a 26 year old ceramic artist from rural Iowa. I first officially started MRC in 2020, with my first Etsy launch in October. It was a thrill to share my pottery products with new people, and I knew I had found my passion.

MY WORK
The aim of my work is to bring joy and whimsy to one's day to day routine. Life's joy comes from the accumulation of little things. My wish is for my work to be a little pocket of joy in your life.

Creating ceramic art and pottery is my passion. This art form brings me true happiness and fills my creative soul to the brim. I am so grateful to be able to share this joy with my customers like you!

DISCOVERING CLAY
I first discovered clay in high school art class, where I took to the wheel immediately. However, I originally attended the University of Northern Iowa to study art with an emphasis in drawing. It wasn't until my sophomore second semester when I would get my hands dirty again. It was in that Ceramics I class that I fall in love with clay all over again and made some lifelong friends. I ended up changing my emphasis to ceramics and graduated in 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts.

STARTING A BUSINESS
Shortly after graduation, I started this business. During this time of lockdown, I was able to create my logo and begin a small studio in my parent's basement (thanks Mom and Dad!). I began my first ever Halloween Collection, which sold better than I could have imagined.

Fast forward a few years, and I am ready to take this business further. Not only have I decided to create this website, but I have recently started pursuing the small business lifestyle full time!

ARTIST STATEMENT
The ambition of my work is boundless; my ideas and projects change all the time, and yet maintains certain aspects of my artistic style. I am heavily influenced by my upbringing on a rural Iowa cattle, corn and bean farm. This “work hard, no excuses” life style lead me to love the demanding and complicated medium that is clay. The nature and serenity of living in "the middle of nowhere" inspires my work to be very botanical, while the structured lifestyle of agriculture leads my work to be detailed and precise. The imagination I developed to entertain myself growing up leads my work to be whimsical, feminine, and nature-themed. I am often fascinated with the idea of petrified plant-life that is immune to the passage of seasons. My background in drawing leads me to have a detailed eye and a thirst for delicate embellishment.
